Application

  1. Prep Your Nails: Clean, file, and buff your nails. Push back cuticles and remove any oils with PH Plus Bonder.
  2. Primer Application (Optional):
Use primer to promote a stronger & longer lasting manicure.
  3. Set Up:
Pour a small amount of acrylic monomer into a dappen dish. Have your Acrylic Powder and a clean brush ready.
  4. Dip the brush:
Submerge the brush fully into the monomer, then lightly press it against the dish edge to remove excess liquid.
  5. Pick Up Powder:
Gently dip the tip of your wet brush into the Acrylic Powder to form a small bead.
  6. Apply:
Place the bead on your nail and spread it evenly with the brush. Shape it quickly before it hardens (5-8 minutes).

Let it air-dry fully, then file and buff to your desired shape.
  8. Finish:
Apply a Top Coat for shine and protection.

FAQs

1. What's the difference between EMA and MMA monomer?

EMA and MMA are both liquid monomers used for creating acrylic nails, but they are very different. EMA (ethyl methacrylate) is the industry-standard, professional-grade monomer, widely used because it’s safer and more flexible. It bonds well to the nail without causing damage, is easier to file, and is designed to be safely soaked off. In contrast, MMA (methyl methacrylate) is a much harder, more rigid, and less flexible material. As early as the 1970’s the U.S. FDA declared MMA to be a “poisonous and deleterious substance” unsuitable for use in cosmetic nail products due to a history of injuries and adverse reactions. As such, its use in nail products is strictly banned by many state boards of cosmetology in the U.S. because it can be highly damaging to the natural nail. Its use in certain medical fields, such as bone cement, is permitted but is subject to strict controls and different regulations.

2. How do I get the right liquid to powder ratio for acrylic nails?

Getting the right liquid to powder ratio is crucial for a smooth, durable acrylic application. The ideal ratio is typically 1.5 parts powder to 1 part liquid. Too much liquid will create a runny, weak mix that can cause lifting, while too little liquid will make the acrylic dry and crumbly, leading to bumpy, uneven nails. To achieve the perfect consistency, dip your brush into the monomer to saturate it, then gently press it into the acrylic powder to form a smooth, “creamy” bead. Practice creating small beads on a paper towel to perfect your technique.

3. What are the benefits of using a high-quality, professional acrylic monomer?

Using a high-quality, professional acrylic monomer is essential for creating beautiful, long-lasting nails. These products, typically formulated with EMA, offer superior adhesion, which prevents lifting and chipping. They also provide better control and a longer work time, which is perfect for both beginners and experienced technicians. High-quality monomers are often non-yellowing and may have a low-odor or even a scented formula, making the application process more pleasant. Ultimately, investing in quality supplies leads to more durable, professional-looking, and safer results for your clients or yourself.

4. Why does acrylic monomer have a strong smell?

The characteristic smell of most acrylic monomer is a result of its main chemical component, EMA (ethyl methacrylate). It’s a natural part of the product and is harmless as long as the product is used in a well-ventilated area, as directed.
It is important to consider your monomer containers to always be full, especially when the liquid level is low.  The “empty space” in the container is actually full of vapors, and it is the vapors that you experience as “the smell.”  Therefore, the more liquid that is in the container the less you will experience the characteristic monomer odor.
You can also reduce the odor by working in a room with an open window or using a dust collector with a filter.

5. Can I use any brand of acrylic powder with my monomer?

While some nail professionals use different brands of powder and monomer, it’s highly recommended to use the monomer and powder from the same product line for the best results. Our DeEnti Acrylic System is chemically balanced to work together, ensuring proper curing, durability, and color stability. Mixing brands can lead to inconsistent application, poor adhesion, and premature lifting or discoloration. Using a matched acrylic system guarantees that the chemical reaction between the liquid and powder is optimized, providing the strongest and most reliable nail enhancements.
